The Queen came to Larkhill on Thursday & I was lucky enough to see her.

 I was warmed by the number of people from the general public I saw who dressed for the occasion.  I have a restored faith in the public of this country.

I’ve been considering this news for a couple of days, trying to decide whether it has much significance.  Undoubtably it’s a media coup for the MOD, and they have, I think, played it rather will. What does jump out at me from the page is the fact that the much heralded “online media” crowd have let themselves down quite badly. 

As you all know the deployment of the prince was the subject of a “D Notice” type media blackout that all the established media (papers TV & Radio) subscribed to.  The news was broken by an online source (not in the UK). 

Online media (mostly blogs & news sites) have put themselves up as the new, “fast to print”, way of giving us the news we want.  I believe they have shown thier lack of maturity in this case, as all the grown up organisations know that they must have a difficult balancing act between being “all over” the establishment and “biting the hand that feed it”.  Online media have shown that they have no yet got this balance right.

No parent is delighted thier offspring is in Iraq.  What an imbecilic thing to say.  They may be proud, but never delighted.  He really has no idea what he is talking about.  Just how low will he stoop for a bit of spin?

Poor old Harry,

He really must be in a quandary.  As any young officer will tell you, your one & only job is to make sure the lads in your platoon / troop are looked after.  He knows full well that his presence in Iraq will create a bit of a problem, and could well put lives at risk.  Equally he knows that this is likely to be his only chance to put into practice all the hard work he’s put in at Sandhurst & Bovington.  Who among the rest of us would not wish to practise our chosen occupation?  He would never want to put his lads in any more danger than already by his presence.

Just like his uncle, and grandfather, Cornet Wales will be “doing his bit” for Queen & Country in a war zone.

I wonder how old Euan Blair (Tony Blair’s son) is?  I believe it’s 23.  What is he doing for the country that educated him (working for a PR company actually, how productive!)?  Or any of the children of the useless politicians attempting to run this country (into the ground)?

If nothing else, this action will in part answer the critics of the House of Windsor that they in fact are relavent to the country.  I have every expectation that he’ll not get it easy.  He’ll be expected to live off his wits & make some important decisions in an instant whilst be ing overloaded with information.  He passed out of Sandhurst, so he should do just fine, as that’s where the best officers in the world are created!
